The 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe not gonna happen, at least we can’t expect coupe version before 2021. Infiniti is busy building a new platform for electric all-wheel drive vehicles. That is why we can’t expect any changes on the current models.
A lot of stories about the new Q70 can be heard these days. While some experts suggest a redesign for the next year, others like nissanandinfiniti.com claim that the current generation will carry on for some more time.
In both cases, experts are speculating about the new, coupe version. This isn’t something new, few years ago we have write about 2017 Infiniti Q70 Coupe Concept.
Why are all interested in the coupe version?
The Infiniti Q70 is successor of the Infiniti M30 two-door coupe and M30 Convertible models. In that time this was very popular model. While we don’t expect at all to se Q70 convertible version, we think that two-door coupe is a must for the Infiniti future.
If we look at the current model, it seems unlikely to see such variants before the redesign. In any case, we will call the new model 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe, although there is a big chance to see the Japanese carmaker to use some other name. In any case, the new version is expected to be heavily based on the familiar mid-size sedan.
2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe Design
Although we still didn’t get anything from the officials, it’s not hard to predict some of the base design characteristics of the 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe. The first thing that comes to mind is a tight relationship with the standard sedan version. The two models will share most of the parts in all aspects. Moreover, the mechanical aspect is about to be identical.
Therefore, it’s not hard to presume that this would be the same kind of relationship we can see between compact Q50 and Q60 models. So, don’t be surprised if you see a new coupe under the Q80 name. At this point, we will stick to the 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe.
Exterior and Interior
As we already mentioned, the new 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe would share a lot with the standard sedan version. Therefore, we expect the same design language to be implemented. Most likely, we will have to wait to see a complete overhaul and then the two models would come with the completely same front end, but different body layouts. This model would come in a typical 2-door coupe layout, with a little bit sportier stance and different rear end.
On the other side, the interior layout is expected to be pretty much the same, at least when it comes to the dashboard design. Still, we will have to wait for a redesign to see how it will look like. On the other side, the overall cabin layout is about to come in a typical 2+2 coupe layout.
When will Q70 be redesigned?
As we have said at the beginning of this article, Infiniti has no plans to make any changes on their vehicles for 2020 model year. They have to much occupation with design of new all-wheel platform for electric cars. Source: topspeed.com
So, redesign of Q50, Q60 and Q70 are postponed for 2021.
2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe Powertrain
There is a lot of options in the game for the 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe. The current units will most likely be replaced. The first engine that comes to mind is a new 3.0-liter turbo-six unit, which already powers Q50 and Q60 models. It comes in two outputs, with either 300 or 400 horsepower, so we presume it would undergo some slight revisions for this occasion, in order to deliver a little bit more power.
Also, we expect to see some kind of electrified powertrain option in the offer, probably a plug-in hybrid. On the other side, the large V8 should be dropped.
Release Date and Price
We will have to wait to see a redesign of the standard Q70 first to know more details about the 2020 Infiniti Q70 Coupe release date and price. Fortunately, that could happen already in the next year. According to some estimations, the new model would go around 60.000 dollars.
